Very positive

As we said in the assembly - well done on a great term - one of the best groups that we have had - keep up the great work - well done

Enjoy midterm

Shoe Box Appeal

The following students have been selected to go to Letterkenny to pack shoe boxes. We had to have a draw and two TY students helped me to do this.
Please speak to your parents/guardians and explain to them the situation with regard to supervision. Because we are not sure how things are going to turn after the midterm I am just letting you know that students WILL HAVE TO MAKE THEIR OWN WAY THERE AND HOME AGAIN - PLEASE ADVISE YOUR PARENTS/GUARDIANS OF THIS - AT THE MINUTE NO TEACHER WILL BE GOING. IF EVERYONE IS HAPPY ENOUGH AT HOME ABOUT THIS PLEASE GET IN TOUCH WITH OTHER STUDENTS AND ARRANGE BETWEEN YOURSELVES.

REMEMBER YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO IT - ALL I ASK IS THAT IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO GO TO IT - THAT YOU SEND ME AN EMAIL AND I CAN SEE IF I CAN GET SOMEONE ELSE TO GO - IF I DO NOT HEAR FROM YOU I WILL PRESUME THAT YOU ARE GOING

It will last from 10am until 3 approx on Monday 7th and please bring loads of warm clothes and lunch for the day - it will be held in Donegal Farm Machiney (unit beside it) in Bonagee (head for Tinneys oil/diesel and it is on your right) - hope that this covers everything

Orla O'Donnell
Emma Burns
along with Micheal Gibbons and Molly Goss (as they went to Letterkenny for the original talk and gave up their evening - well done on this by the way - great thing to do)

This is a great charity event - I know that you now have to make a big effort - its all for a great cause - thanks for getting involved and well done

Scrap book - u have a choice

As discussed and agreed - you can do your scrap book either of two ways -

  1. you can do your SCRAP BOOK online - however this must be on the e-portfolio page - I have already set up a link for it - just add in what you like in whatever way that you like OR
  2. you can buy a scrap book and complete a hard copy version

The choice is yours - but YOU MUST HAVE ONE DONE!!

Any questions please just ask

Thanks

Google classroom and e-portfolio/Internet problems

I know the assembly was quick the last day but please play about with google classroom - its the only way that you will learn - as you seen from the assembly I am learning all about it as well - so its up to everyone to get up to date with it

With regard to e-portfolio - EVERYONE should have it set up by now - if you do not - speak to a friend and get it set up asap

Please note - if you are having problems with any of these two things please come to me after mid term and I will help you - this is important

Also - if you are having problems with internet at home or anything - please come to me and I will help you out - we will sort something

Thanks

When at your work placement on this Friday (Oct. 28th), can you remind your employer that you will not be there on November 4th as it is your mid term holiday week.
They have such information in the letter given to them at the beginning of the placement but best to let them know.
Thank you for your co-operation so far,

Shoe Box Appeal - get involved

A list of students gave me their names for Letterkenny - it will be happening after mid term break - Monday 7th Nov

All shoe boxes for the school must be in by the end of next week - even if you are not going to Lkenny please get involved - brochures available from staffroom

I think that it is only right that if u put your name down to help out in Letterkenny - which is great and thank you for that - then you must take in a show box for the school to be considered for Letterkenny

Hopefully everyone will be happy enough with that

I may still have to do a draw

Thanks again for getting involved - its a great cause so do your bit - and well done for getting involved

Speak to me (I will put you in touch with the person who is in charge in school of shoe boxes) and maybe you could get more involved - maybe they could do with a hand - you could ask anyway

Dear Adrian

I hope you don’t mind me getting in contact I got your details from Ciara Murphy who is a bereaved parent who volunteers with Anam Cara . Anam Cara is an all-Ireland organisation founded in 2008 by bereaved parents to support parents and their families following the death of a child. Anam Cara is open to all bereaved parents, regardless of the age or circumstances of their child’s death, or whether the death was recent or not. All Anam Cara Services are offered free of charge to bereaved Mum’s and Dad’s.

There is a strong possibility that your school has sadly experienced the death of a student or former student and will understand the devastation the death of a child has, not only for the parents but the whole community.

Last year your TY students very kindly helped us out with our bag pack in Dunnes Stores Forte Shopping Centre and we would really appreciate it if your students would again consider helping us out for a couple of hours with the Anam Cara National Bag Pack which takes place on Saturday 19th November in Dunnes Stores Forte SC between 10:00-18:00, this will help us to continue offering our services free of charge to bereaved parents in Donegal.

Your support would help Anam Cara raise awareness of our services in the community and will also help Anam Cara to develop and grow our support services for bereaved parents in Donegal. All funds raised from this event will be used to directly support bereaved Mum’s and Dad’s in Donegal.

On the day Anam Cara will provide t-shirts, collection buckets and information leaflets. There will be an Anam Cara volunteer at each store to offer support and answer any queries. We will be presenting a Certificate of Appreciation to all who help us on the day.

If you require further information about Anam Cara or can help with this national bag pack please contact us on 01 4045378 or email us on c.curley@anamcara.ie

Looking forward to hearing from you

Kind Regards,
Clodagh Curley

Subject: NEW "Solicitors of the Future" TY work experience programme from the Law Society of Ireland

The Law Society of Ireland is delighted to announce that our innovative transition year work experience programme, Solicitors of the Future, will take place from 7 - 10 February 2017.

Places on the programme are limited and will be allocated to schools through a lottery system. Schools who are interested in nominating a student to the programme should visit www.lawsociety.ie/futuresolicitors to register their interest.

Following a successful pilot programme in June 2016, we hope to encourage a new cohort of transition year students to consider a career in law over four activity-packed days at Blackhall Place, Dublin 7.

Open to students around the country, Solicitors of the Future offers an insight into the solicitor’s role and profession. In addition, the programme demonstrates how the law can be relevant to the daily lives of participants and promotes awareness of the legal processes, constitutional principles, and values which underpin the rule of law in Ireland.

Facilitated by Law Society staff, trainee solicitors, and expert practitioners, the programme features:
·         a visit to the Criminal Courts of Justice
·         a tour of a large commercial firm
·         expert-led workshops
·         guest speakers
·         courtroom activities
·         a careers seminar, and
·         a mock trial.

A draft timetable and FAQ document can be viewed at the above link. If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact us at tysolicitors@lawsociety.ie.

Kind regards,
